Power Glove XSC

Power Glove XSC
Artist Statement

To create an ultimate party experience with this unique Power Glove. Power Glove can create stunning visual effect with your own creativity. It is also come with a costume. You can wear this unique super hero costume to dress up parties. Main Features: Power gathering, just hold your fist and see the lighting changes. Power Magnum and Energy Blast.
There are three sensors in total on the glove, accelerometer, flex sensor and pressure sensor. They work together to sensor three distinctive movemtns, spell, gathering energy and energy blast. The main technical challenge we were facing was how to combine the three sensors together and soder them onto the glove.
I had used cables instead of conductive thread because it is more suitable for this project, there will be heaps of crossover of the wires underneath the glove. Finally hope you like it.

I have ordered most of the things for my group, there are some changes for the original order, for instance, we have changed the four 5mm ultra bright leds in front of the glove to 10 mm ones, I went to JayCar and bought them with set of conductive threads. Finally I could get started on the sodering process on the glove.

Progress update 1/6/10

While I was doing the sewing with the conductive thread, I have encountered many issues, such as short circuit and the placement of threads, because it is quite a complex design, I had decided to use a different way to resolve the problem.

Work Update

Cuted open Glove

Leds in positions1

Our order has finally arrived, this is effecting on our design and testing, however I still believe that our group will still have enough time to accomplish this project on schedule. Now I have successufully cut open the inside layer of this glove and started putting Leds onto their positions. And tommorow I will start soldering. Mean while Shengying was doing his coding, I have successfully read the sensor value on the lilypad accelerometer ADXL335.

The things our group have ordered has been holded up by the NZ Customs and it will not just arrive late and also we have to pay extra 60 dollars to the customs. Anyway we will have to wait for our products arrive in order to start technical work.

Body Language|Shengying+Charles

Me and another digiatal media designer Shengying has team up for this group project,I had came up my initial 2 wearablw design proposals below. One is for people to use in public or social situations(e.g. a relationship-still in an experimenting stage), the second is a wearable that detects people's body and hand movement, and create specific sound response, it can be widely used in different areas, for example for stage actors or for special forces soldiers to interact with no talking but evironmental sound.

My third proposal will be in the next post.Mean while my friend Shengying hopefully will have his project proposals uploaded already. And we have decided that I should do the sodering and designs for this project.

The fans knows when to start it...

The New Wembley Stadium at night(before the game reaching its climax)

Soccer fans started making mexican waves with the "Led T-shirt"

No matter what age groups you belongs to you can always wear one of these LED T-shirts to one of your favourite sports matches. For the lucky Manchester United fans, the first prototype of led T-shirt can be yours. It is still developing but should be coming out shortly.

It is designed to help your home teams to win big games in your home soil or away matches in big games like UEFA Champions League. why is this LED T-shirt so unique? The answer is simple, you can produce not just sound when you are doing mexican waves now, you can produce stuning visuals when you support your home team by switching a power on or off on your LED T-shirts. You can even sit with a group of people that forms a certian shape. Alternatively sitting with other supporters who have different colors of LED T-shirts or teams to support in the stadium and say,"let's be friends!"

The Beautiful game continues in next post...

Basics lights on T shirt

Here I have finished embeding the background led lights onto my T-Shirt by using conductive threads and they works after the tests. And I have tested out different ways of blinking and fadings here are some of the video showing it.

Concept Update

Concept Drawing

Adidas World Cup Ads

Adidas Ads - ball curve

My new concept drawings are done, I have made some changes, and finallised concept will be uploaded soon, I have decided not to use solar panel for my project and yet to decide whether or not ot use acclerometer.

As you can see from my concept drawings, I am trying to use a led curve to create a visual effect just like when players like Beckham bending a ball into the back of the nets, or players movements of fancy footworks during the "beautiful game" is curvy in many of the sports magazines, since no one can disagree that soccer is a beautiful game, so the led curve itself has to look nice.

Philips Light Emitting T-Shirts

The greatest strength of this project is its flexibily of the new textile invented by Philips, I wonder if I could make something like that for the soccer fans to wear.

3d Globe

Led HardDrive

It is another very interestin project From Youtube I have discovered. This is a hard drive clock, it is operating with lighting effects. Youtube Video

Work in Progress2update

I'm going to get some materials from Dicksmith electronics and also get t-shirts for my upcoming project.

I quite like the design of the Manchester United home kit this season. Just to show you this image here, it will definately help with the design of my own LED T-shirt later on.
